Are your workloads aligned with the AWS best practices?

Is your infrastructure reliable, secure, and cost-efficient?

Every workload is unique, but the key concepts and best practices apply to most workloads. AWS Well-Architected Framework provides a consistent approach for customers to evaluate architectures and implement scalable designs and helps you build secure, high-performing, resilient, and efficient infrastructure for various applications and workloads.

A Well-Architected Review is a multidimensional assessment focusing on six key pillars and helps you to identify any weak spots and provides you with recommendations for improvements.

Key benefits of the Well-Architected Review

  • Identify and reduce risks of the workload
  • Reduce and optimize the costs of the solution
  • Improve the operational efficiency and performance
  • Minimize downtime and system failures
  • Identify and mitigate security gaps

AWS Well-Architected Framework Overview

The AWS Well-Architected Framework describes key concepts, design principles, and architectural best practices for designing and running workloads in the cloud. Well-Architected Review focuses on six key pillars, allows you to learn how well your architecture aligns with cloud best practices and provides guidance for making improvements.

Operational Excellence Pillar
Security Pillar
Reliability Pillar
Performance Efficiency Pillar
Cost Optimization Pillar
Sustainability Pillar

The operational excellence pillar focuses on running and monitoring systems and continually improving processes and procedures. Key topics include automating changes, responding to events, and defining standards to manage daily operations.

The security pillar focuses on protecting information and systems. Key topics include confidentiality and integrity of data, managing user permissions, and establishing controls to detect security events.

The reliability pillar focuses on workloads performing their intended functions and how to recover quickly from failure to meet demands. Key topics include distributed system design, recovery planning, and adapting to changing requirements.

The performance efficiency pillar focuses on the allocation of structured and streamlined IT and computing resources. Key topics include selecting resource types and sizes optimized for workload requirements, monitoring performance, and maintaining efficiency as business needs evolve.

The cost optimization pillar focuses on avoiding unnecessary costs. Key topics include understanding spending over time and controlling fund allocation, selecting resources of the right type and quantity, and scaling to meet business needs without overspending.

The sustainability pillar focuses on minimizing the environmental impacts of running cloud workloads. Key topics include a shared responsibility model for sustainability, understanding impact, and maximizing utilization to minimize required resources and reduce downstream impacts.

Our approach

Each Well-Architected Review is carefully planned from the beginning to the end, allowing us to streamline the project delivery. We start with the initial meeting, where the whole Well-Architected review process is presented to the key stakeholders and teams involved in the review process.

Once everybody is onboard several workshops covering individual pillars are scheduled, and the appropriate stakeholders review the workload.

After the review, individual High-Risk and Medium-Risk areas are discovered, and we prepare an Improvement plan.

The plan is aligned with the business needs & priorities & goals, and the scope of work for the Improvement phase is prepared.

During the Improvement phase, we remedied identified High-Risk and Medium-Risk areas, so the workload is aligned with the AWS best practices.
